Maggie Adams: For a Better, Brighter Washington

I believe that every person has a right to healthcare, education, and a healthy environment in which to live their best life. As your State Representative for WA Legislative District 12 I would work hard to ensure that every Washingtonian has access to these necessities in order to build the groundwork for a better, brighter Washington.
I am a working parent and a proud Union worker. As a current member of Actor's Equity Association and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local #887 I have worked on the front lines of the battle for worker's rights, fair pay, and a reliable social safety net. Everyone should have the opportunity to earn a living wage in a safe workplace free from harassment and exploitation.

Accessible, comprehensive healthcare is a fundamental human right. Washington leads the nation in medical innovation and research, our residents should lead the nation in access to healthcare and top notch medical professionals. Washingtonians' access to medical treatment is largely determined by their location on the map, if elected I will work to bring access to full, comprehensive healthcare to every corner of the state.

Education is the foundation for a thriving society and teachers are the most important building block of a world class education system. Our educators and support staff deserve good wages, excellent facilities, and safe working conditions so they can do their best work. Our students of all ages should have the opportunity to explore their potential and access higher learning regardless of economic status or origin.

We are blessed to live in a state as beautiful as Washington and it is our duty to be responsible stewards of this land. From our farmlands to the towns District 12 encompasses wild spaces, agricultural enterprises, and growing suburban communities who all rely on our natural resources. As we enter our fourth consecutive year of drought it is critical to prioritize water conservation and to create regulations which protect the water we need to survive. Our communities and farmers should have top priority for water resources - not Data Centers and out of state energy companies.

I believe in an America that is of, for and by the people. Our forefathers gifted us with a Constitution which is meant to be amended and the idea that the people living here shall never be subject to the whims of Lords and Kings. They created a House represented by the people of the land, not landed gentry.
Serving in elected office is a public service and should have a clear beginning and end. Serving in congress and state legislature should not be a decades long career, it should be a limited term of service.
I support a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on elected offices and length of service limits on federal judiciary positions.

Another fundamental principle of America is the idea of No Taxation Without Representation. Teenage workers in Washington pay taxes on their wages and do not get a say in how their tax dollars are spent. We entrust our young workers with so much and yet we shut them out from democracy.
I support an amendment to Washington's Constitution to lower the voting age to 16 in state and local elections.
